2024
The Tervatynnyri pitching competition was held for the fifth time in 2024. The final day was opened by Silpa Kinnunen, the winner of the 2023 Idea category.
The event was organized by Centria University of Applied Sciences, Kokkolanseudun Kehitys Oy KOSEK, Viexpo, the Kaustinen region, and YritysKannus Oy in collaboration with various business actors from Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia, and Northern Ostrobothnia.
In 2024, the Idea and Master series once again attracted significant interest, showcasing innovative solutions and new approaches to addressing business challenges. Both series featured high-level competition, and the exceptional quality of participants made the jury’s decisions particularly challenging.
METAPRESS IMPRESSED THE JURY
The four pitches in the Master Series represented top innovations in the field, but the winner was the MetaPress platform presented by Jussi Loukianen. The platform offers a novel approach to leveraging journalistic content by transforming news articles into interactive games. The jury was particularly impressed by the clarity of the pitch and the solution’s potential to address key challenges in the media industry, such as declining interest in news and reduced reader engagement.
While the solution was not deemed entirely unique, its competitive position and market potential were seen as strong. MetaPress was evaluated as having the capacity to generate significant positive impacts for both media companies and readers. Combined with Loukianen’s convincing pitch, this made MetaPress the winner.
The other finalists in the Master series were: Drophop Oy, SWIPIT and Natural Indigo Finland.
THE HEARTFELT CONCEPT OF TAIKASATUKULMA
The Idea Series final featured seven ideas, with the victory going to the entrepreneurs behind Taikasatukulma, Eemeli Alanne and Veera Mahlakaarto. Their service focuses on providing bedtime stories for families with children. The duo’s pitch was well-rehearsed, timed, and easy to follow.
Taikasatukulma’s business model was seen as having all the elements for success, and the concept was already proven to work in practice.
According to the jury, competition for people’s time is fierce, but high-quality, family-friendly content will hopefully prevail in this race.
The other finalists in the Idea category were: Kristiina Markkula, Marisol Zamora Cespedes, Philip Lang, Vladislav Voziyan, Janne Klemola and Kaj Slotte.
2023
The business idea competition, which was held for the fourth time in 2023, once again gathered a large number of entrepreneurs, students, and other enthusiastic inventors. The goal of the competition is to encourage entrepreneurship and help new products and services reach the market.
The competition was organized by Centria University of Applied Sciences, Kokkolanseudun Kehitys Oy KOSEK, Viexpo, Kaustinen Region, and YritysKannus Oy, along with many partners from the business sector in Central Ostrobothnia. On the final day, inspiring speeches from companies in the region were also presented.
HUOLETON OY WON THE BUSINESS CATEGORY
On November 28, 2023, a group of innovative participants, judges, and a large audience gathered at Centria University of Applied Sciences. The jury selected Huoleton Oy’s floor drain cover innovation as the winner, presented by the company’s CEO, Juho Karhumaa. The decision was based on the product’s clarity and its ability to solve a well-known problem for everyone. The innovation is backed by a strong team, and the business model is both scalable and easy to localize. The finalists in the business category for 2023 were: Huoleton Oy, Kierrätymaa Oy, Woodgrow Oy, Ahvenjärvi & Lappalainen Oy and Wellnify Oy.
SILPA KINNUNEN WON THE STUDENT CATEGORY
The student category was won by Silpa Kinnunen with her ketogenic, gluten-free, grain-free, and preservative-free pies, which she also offered to the jury. Silpa was exceptionally well-prepared for the competition. Her business idea was the most developed in the student category and is ready to be taken further. She had conducted thorough research, examined the market, permits, and competitors, and her genuine interest in her field was clearly evident.
2022
In 2022, the jury selected a smart stethoscope, which had been developed over three years at Aalto University, as the winner of the Tervatynnyri pitch competition. The jury awarded an honorary prize to the mobile application Commu. The other two finalists were Kommunikaatio Ilo Oy’s Vilo interaction pass and Lissn Consulting Oy’s recruitment services and efforts to strengthen companies’ employer branding.
